The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists has expressed concern over the spate of insecurity in the country and the rising cost of food items, cooking gas, amongst others.
The complaint was stated in a communique signed by the National Secretary, Helen Udofa at the end of the NAWOJ NEC meeting held in Lafia, Nasarawa State, between November 3-5, 2021. The communique was made available to journalists.
At the meeting presided over by the National President of NAWOJ, Comrade Ladi Bala, issues concerning the association and the state of the nation were extensively discussed and the NEC in session resolved as follows.
The communique read in part, “The issue of insecurity in the country caught the attention of the NEC in session as it called on the federal government to strengthen the nation’s security architecture to address security challenges in different parts of the nation.
"NEC called on the Federal Government to look into the rising cost of food items, cooking gas, building materials; to reduce the cost of living for citizens in the country. NEC frowned at the rising cases of gender-based violence and stressed the need to ensure the workability of family courts to ensure justice for victims."
